Self-DeterminationProviding Support to the Central Valley
Self-determination is a voluntary regional center program that provides participants with an individual budget, which they can use to purchase the services and supports they need to implement their person-centered plan (PCP) and Individual Program Plan (IPP) As of July 1, 2021, the Self-Determination Program (SDP) began to be available on a voluntary basis to any eligible regional center individual. In an effort to ensure effective implementation of the Self-Determination Program, each Regional Center is required to establish a Local Advisory Committee. The Regional Center and the Regional Office of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities each appoint one-half of the membership of the committee. The committee includes consumers, family members, the regional center clients’ rights advocate, as well as other advocates and community members. The majority of the committee is comprised of consumers and family members. The committee also reflects the multicultural diversity and geographic profile of the catchment area. Regional Center individuals who would like to participate in Self Determination are required to attend a Self Determination Orientation session.
